I have driven too far on the internet

I've gone into the post-ironic realm - Scala & Kolacny Brothers singing an ABBA Medley

I need to hit myself in the head with an iron skillet in order to come to my senses.

This is National Nothing Day, set aside each year for people to sit around for the entire day and just hang out. No celebrating, observing or honoring anything.

It was created by newspaperman, Harold Pullman Coffin in 1972 and first celebrated in 1973. Please do continue read today's postings.

... At the center of non-violence stands the principle of love ...

Besides being a sales day at the Department Stores, it's Martin Luther King Day. To celebrate the day and the man, I'd like you to once again opine these words from his 1964 Nobel Lecture:

... Occasionally in life there are those moments of unutterable fulfillment which cannot be completely explained by those symbols called words. Their meaning can only be articulated by the inaudible language of the heart.

Hopefully your life will be filled with many of these moments.

NBC-TV presented the 440th and final episode of Bonanza (which began airing on NBC on September 12, 1959) on this date.

By 1968, Dan Blocker began wearing a toupee on the series as he was approaching forty and losing hair. He joined the ranks of his fellow co-stars Pernell Roberts and Lorne Greene, both of whom began the series with hairpieces (Greene wore his modest frontal piece in private life too, whereas Roberts preferred not wearing his, even to rehearsals/blocking). Michael Landon was the only original cast member who was wig-free throughout the series, as even Victor Sen Yung's Hop Sing wore an attached queue (pony tail).

Today in History:

Ivan IV was crowned Tsar of Russia. . He is better known by his nickname: Ivan the Terrible. He was the first king of Russia to call himself a Caesar, probably in the hopes that Shakespeare would write a play about him.

He couldn’t pronounce Caesar, however, so he simply called himself "zar," and subsequent arguments over whether that should be spelled czar, tsar, zar, or tzar became so heated that they eventually resulted in Russian History.

You finally get control back of the vertical and horizontal of your television set - ABC-TV aired the final episode of The Outer Limits on this date.

An example of a television network deliberately killing a popular series by moving it to an inappropriate slot on their schedule. This series was a big hit, especially among younger viewers. For the second season, ABC moved it from Monday nights to 7:30 Saturday. It was not only an inappropriate timeslot for younger viewers, it served as the lead-in for The Lawrence Welk Show and was scheduled opposite the highly popular Jackie Gleason and His American Scene Magazine on CBS. The series was pulled halfway into the second season.

Operation Desert Storm commences as Baghdad is pummelled live on CNN. Targeted with smartbombs are "command and control facilities" and Saddam Hussein himself.

We seem to miss both, but do manage to kill about 100,000 Iraqi soldiers in the surreal bombardments that follow.

And so it goes.
