One of the city's many lakes is named for Mr. Calhoun. Because Calhoun was, among other things, a staunch defender of slavery, some folks recently have petitioned the Park Board (Lake Calhoun is part of a lovely urban park system) to change the name to the Ojibwe: Mde Maka Ska.
